Horain Zainab Awaits Speech Therapy

Horain Zainab's Story

Horain Zainab, a 2-year-old girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, had never known the joy of listening to her mother’s voice. She spent the first two years of her life in silence. Her parents were heartbroken but determined to find a solution. When they visited a doctor, she was diagnosed with a congenital sensorineural hearing loss. With the support of Transparent Hands, Horain underwent cochlear implant surgery in March 2025. The procedure was successful, and she can now hear the sounds around her. However, her struggle isn’t over yet. Horain cannot yet identify words or expressions as she had never heard sounds before surgery. She now needs regular speech therapy for a year.

If Horain does not receive speech therapy, she may struggle to communicate, leaving her isolated despite the successful cochlear implant surgery. Moreover, she may miss the critical period for speech development, making it difficult for her to interact with the world around her.

Horain lives in a modest home with her three family members. Her father, a police employee, is the only breadwinner in the family, earning PKR 60,000 per month. They just manage to cover their household expenses, including utility bills, as well as food expenses. The cost of Horain’s speech therapy is overwhelming for her family. During this time of need, they reached out to Transparent Hands once again and asked for assistance.

“We were happy when Horain heard our voices for the first time after surgery. Now, we fear that without therapy, she may never learn to speak or understand us. We request you to help her receive this much-needed treatment.”
