Shamim Akhter's Story

Shamim Akhter, a 55-year-old woman from Dadu, Sindh, has been suffering from vision problems for the past ten years. What began as slight blurriness in her right eye gradually turned into a loss of vision, making it difficult for her to manage her daily life. Today, even simple tasks like recognizing faces or counting money at her small shop have become a struggle. Recently, Shamim visited a doctor, who conducted a thorough examination and diagnosed her with a cataract in her right eye. The doctor has advised right Phacoemulsification (Phaco) with Intraocular Lens (IOL) implantation to restore her sight. However, Shamim can’t afford her surgery.

Without this surgery, her vision will continue to deteriorate. It may result in permanent blindness in the affected eye.

Shamim’s circumstances make her situation even more heartbreaking. She is a widow, and lives alone in a rented house. She runs a small confectionery/candy shop for children. From this humble setup, she earns around PKR 10,000 per month, barely enough to cover her rent of PKR 1,000 and meet basic living expenses. With no family members to support her financially, affording the cost of eye surgery is completely out of her reach.

Shamim shared her plea as follows:

“I try to stay strong and work every day, but my vision is getting blurry. I’m afraid that if I lose my vision completely, I won’t be able to earn or survive on my own. Kindly help me get my sight back.”

At Transparent Hands, we believe that no one should lose their independence or dignity due to treatable medical conditions. We have registered Shamim’s case and are committed to helping her, but we need your support to make it possible.

Your donations can restore Shamim’s vision and give her the strength to continue living with self-respect. Contribute generously and help light up her world once again.

Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website.
