Rida Rafiq is a 12-year-old girl from Bahawalpur who has been battling with breathlessness and chest discomfort since birth. From a very young age, Rida has faced significant health challenges. Activities like climbing stairs and playing with her friends leave her struggling to breathe. She frequently suffers from chest infections that weaken her further. Recently, her parents took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor.

After a detailed medical evaluation, the doctor diagnosed Rida with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). It is a heart condition where a blood vessel called the ductus arteriosus fails to close after birth. This condition causes abnormal blood flow in the heart, leading to breathlessness and repeated infections. The doctor has advised a PDA ligation, a procedure to close the ductus arteriosus and restore normal heart function. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery is overwhelming for her family.

Without this surgery, Rida’s condition will worsen, putting her at risk of severe heart complications and continued respiratory infections. The PDA ligation is critical to improving her health and quality of life, allowing her to breathe easier and participate in normal activities.

Rida lives with her parents and three siblings in a modest house in Bahawalpur. Her father works as a laborer and is the sole earner of the family, bringing home approximately PKR 25,000 per month. Despite his hard work, her father struggles to cover their monthly expenses. They hardly pay utility bills amounting to PKR 3,500 and educational expenses of PKR 10,000. After covering these essential costs, there is no money left for Rida’s surgery.

Rida’s parents said in despair:

“We want Rida to enjoy a normal childhood, but our limited income makes the surgery beyond our reach. She is struggling hard to survive each day of her life. We ask you to be kind and save our daughter’s life.”
